A downloadable game for Windows

Darkiplier is chasing a young man who suffers from amnesia. When this somebody stumbles into Detective Abe, they find themselves helping each other solve cases, fight off ghosts, and deal with wacky characters in a universe they know little of.  Can the two of them uncover the mysteries of this strange world together, as well as the mysteries that lie in their pasts?

All three chapters of In The Dark are out now! The average gameplay time seems to be about 2-4 hours of gameplay each chapter. This IS a horror game, with heavy themes (not Outlast heavy, more The Crooked Man heavy) and is not intended for kids 13 or younger.

To dispel some confusion--you do not need RPGmaker yourself or an itch.io account to play this game. You only need a Windows PC and to unzip the file after hitting the download button. If you still cannot play for whatever reason but want to see the game, an earlier/buggier version was played in its entirety by MsRockenTooth and you can watch her VOD here

THIS IS A FANGAME. I am not an associate of Markiplier or any such awesomefolks or their content. I made this for me and whoever else wants to play.

Getting stuck? Here's a walkthrough for the puzzles of Chapter One  here

And one for Chapter Two here
And one for Chapter Three here

loved it!

Tyty! ^_^

The part with the statues in Ch. 1 needs to be nerfed hard. I can't properly lure and dodge the statues when the screen keeps going black and I can't see where I am or where they are. It's such bullshit. I love the idea of this game and I want to play it, but that part is fucking impossible! I can't learn their patterns when the screen goes dark and they sneak up on me! I can't learn what I can't fucking see! Until this is fixed, I give this game a 2/5. I want to love it, but it's so hard and unforgiving.

Just saw your comment on DolphinTreasureArt's video and I'm fucking livid! You know how hard it is and you're choosing to keep it that way because it's "impossible to make any easier"?!?! The fuck?!? That's some Todd Howard logic right there!! Except this isn't an open-world 3D game. It's an RPGMaker game! And whereas Skyrim's bugs make it funnier and enjoyable, this makes it unenjoyable and an absolute chore! Maybe I'm just bad. Maybe I'm just salty. But when you're trying to lure a statue into a pit and the screen goes black, making you lose track of said statue, and it kills you for it, that is absolute bullshit game design!!! Please. Anything to make the level easier. Get rid of the flickering lights. They aren't scary. They aren't building any atmosphere. They're just annoying and make me want to throw my chair. I don't care how much it breaks your level setup. As the developer, you can fix that. A game is supposed to be fun. Not tedious.

Hey there. A few things:

1) I have already nerfed that particular part of the game three times. It is incredibly common for newbie game developers (like me) to make their levels more difficult than they realize. When I released the game, I was worried that part would be too easy, if that gives you an idea. I can't exactly hire beta testers. I am not Todd Howard. I am just a dude with limited time trying to learn how to make games with a fan game. I am sorry for how my oversight has frustrated people, but please don't expect me to have all the skill and wisdom of established game developers, even bad ones.

2) I have be politely asked a few times recently to see if I can fix it further, and I plan to by having the light flicker lessen/be more predictable. It'll be some time before I can do this, but it's on the list of things I gotta do. And I want it VERY clear that it is being done because I was informed by kinder, more considerate players. Your first comment was fine, and I get that you're frustrated, but there's never a need to attack someone over a game, period.

3) If my next nerf doesn't help much, there is a "bug" you can take advantage of to help you get past that part: Link can get got by the statues, but Abe can't. You can basically use Abe like a shield against them. I pointed this out in the walkthrough, but maybe I can find a way to point it out in game as well/make it less a bug and more feature. Hope that helps.

Hey, man. It was really late last night when I posted that and I wasn't thinking very clearly. I was frustrated and I ended up taking it out on you. I deeply apologize for that. You're right. There is never a need to attack anyone over a game. I was too caught up in the moment and wasn't thinking about it rationally. I was arrogant and selfish and I'm sorry.

One thing I would suggest is to make the lights only go halfway into darkness and not pitch black. It's hard to even use the exploit you suggested because I can't even see which way the statues are coming from, which results in them going a different direction than I thought they were, I can't see that and I can't dodge in time to get away.

Again, I'm very sorry for lashing out at you. I take full responsibility for that and I deeply apologize. Thank you and have a nice day.

No hard feelings. I'll see how light I can make the dark-out, lol. Have a good one

Hey, I've recently fixed this problem, or so I hope. Let me know if you have any further troubles or encounter any bugs

is there gonna be chapter 2? i liked the game

Hey, glad you've enjoyed it so far! I'm still working on Chapter two. I meant to have it done by this October but I've been held back by personal events and Covid stuff. Still might release it in December tho ^_^

how do i get as many chips as i can?

Yeeeeee I need to make a walkthrough and post it on my blog soon for exactly this reason.

For folks reading, SPOILERS!!!!!

If you're asking about where to find chips to play the games, there's a plant in the upper right corner of the bar, at the top of the casino map. Select it and you'll find that someone put hella chips there that you can use. If you use them up on the wrong games, you won't get enough tickets and get a game over screen, but then you start again where you left off with all the chips. You'll have enough chips to get the tickets you need, but you have to spend them on the right game(s), and there's clues from the other gamblers on what game's best. If you get stuck again or need help let me know ^_^

start what again?

i thought Link is from Legend of Zelda and i thought 'Game Grumps are going to like this game'.

LMAO yeah Link has at least three different meanings one can take away. I wanted him to be a lot more quiet and Link-like originally, actually, but showing a character with no dialogue AND no body language is tough
